Start with understanding the nature of faith in Hebrews 11:1. This verse says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” It’s the Bible’s way of telling you that having faith means trusting in something beyond what you can see and touch. It’s about a confident belief in the unseen plans of a loving God.
If you wish for things and you pray for them, God is faithful to supply what you are equipped to handle responsibly. “Name-it & Claim-it ” is not a promise of God. He will give you the desires of your heart when your desires are aligned with what He knows is best for you and His Kingdom, even though you may not understand, or see it that way.
James 4:1-3 demonstrates this perfectly: “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”
Jeremiah 29:11 is like a comforting hug from God. The verse says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This reminds you that God has a plan for you, even when life feels out of control. Trusting this plan can give you a sense of purpose, hope, and peace, in any storm of life.
Have you ever heard the saying ‘faith can move mountains’? Well, this is a teaching of Christ; a parable. It is taken directly from Matthew 17:20 and Luke 17:6. Both verses talk about having faith as small as a mustard seed, to remove something as huge as a mountain. It’s not about having a mountain-sized faith.
This parable teaches that even a tiny bit of true faith can have a huge impact on whatever you face and whatever you must endure. It teaches you that starting small is okay. Small steps of faith can lead to big changes and as you witness them, stronger and stronger faith.
Strengthening Solid Faith: Scriptures for Growing Believers
Proverbs 3:5-6 gives straightforward advice: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Life gets messy, and it’s easy to feel lost. This scripture encourages you to rely on God’s wisdom rather than your own, giving you a sense of direction and peace. Remember, a small amount of true faith, and belief that God can and will see you through, will serve to fix whatever is wrong, or strengthen you to endure — to see you through.
Romans 8:28 provides a ton of reassurance: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Things don’t always go as planned, but this verse reminds you that God can turn any situation around for good. It’s a reminder to stay faithful even in tough times. It is also a declaration that God uses even the bad things that happen in your life to produce good in you, and in others who are watching you go through things they, themselves, could never endure.
James 1:6 deals with doubts head-on: “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” Feeling unsure is normal, but this verse encourages you to stand firm in your faith and decisions, even when things get shaky. Remember, He is working all things to the good.
Philippians 4:6-7 is like a stress reliever in words: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Anxiety is something everyone deals with at some point, but connecting with God through prayer can bring a peace that’s hard to explain but always welcome.
Achieving Exceptional Faith: Scriptures for Mature Believers
Romans 4:20-21 highlights the unwavering faith of Abraham. These verses say, ‘Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.’ Abraham’s story shows the power of unshakeable trust in God’s promises, even when the outcome seems impossible.
Did Abraham have doubts? Yes, he did (Genesis 17: 15-21). But the faith of a mustard seed was that He knew that God could do what He promised; that God could and would accomplish what the world deemed impossible.
1 Corinthians 16:13 is a call to action: ‘Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.’ This scripture is all about maintaining your faith stance every day. It’s a reminder to stay vigilant, courageous, and strong in your convictions no matter what challenges arise. It is to believe God when the world says it is foolish to do so.
2 Timothy 4:7 gives a sense of fulfillment: ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.’ This verse is inspiring, showing that living out your faith is a journey—a race worth running. It’s about staying committed to the end and recognizing the value of your spiritual journey.
Ephesians 3:16-19 speaks of experiencing God’s fullness. It reads, ‘I pray that out of his glorious riches, he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.’
This scripture encourages you to dig deep into the limitless dimensions of God’s love, urging you to embrace His presence fully in your life.
The power of God for you to overcome or endure your adversities is only limited by your ability to have the faith ( of a mustard seed) that He will do as He has said He would.

So, how, in your opinion, might this principle affect the way you make requests to God or plan your future? For instance, if you consider whether your goals align with what you believe God wants for you, how might that shift your approach to praying for those goals or pursuing them?
Thanks for your interest. You have posed a very good question, one I could write an entire article on, but here is the path I follow to utilize this principle:
1) Daily, I pray for God’s will to be manifest in my life, and before reaching any decision – or offering a specific prayer request – I pray as Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane just hours before his Crucifixion: Not my will, but yours be done, Lord…
2) I know and believe in my heart that God has my best interest in mind and is working all things, even what I may be going through, to the good (Romans 8:28) of myself and/or others — maybe even countless others.
In this manner, by placing God in charge of our decisions and paths forward, we are aligning our will with God’s perfect will for our lives and His Kingdom Purposes. And, as mentioned in the post, God knows the plans He has for us, and it is His plan to prosper us and to provide a future or expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11)
God will open many doors for us throughout our lives that many will dismiss or ignore. And while that is not the best for us, it is certainly ok, because He will open other doors when we once again align our wills with His…
He will also keep us from entering doors and taking paths that are not good for us if we are attuned to His Will… Sometimes the answer is Yes when we pray. Sometimes the answer is No — But there is always an answer and the more we learn of God’s Word and as our relationship with God grows and matures, we’re better able to recognize and understand His answers and draw from His strength, or rejoice in it.
He also denies us things we ask for because either we cannot responsibly handle what we ask for, or whatever we ask for will not serve others in the most impactful manner for God’s Kingdom… The story of Job is a great example of this type of impact reaching thousands of years into the future to affect many people…
Let me ask you a question: If you could save one soul from an eternity apart for God and His goodness, would you go through the worst thing you have experienced all over again? And what if going through it again meant saving thousands, would you go through it again?
Everyone is watching as our struggles are upon us; those we know are watching and countless others we have no idea they are even aware of what we are going through…and we may never know, this side of Heaven, just who or how many, turned to God because they know that they could never have handled what we endured by the Grace and Strength and Love of God… They often turn to God because they want the strength and perseverance that we have from Him. They want what we have.
How many times in your life has someone said to you, “You are a better man (or woman) than me! I could not have handled what you went through!”
Well, what if someone watching you in those struggles asks a Christian or a Pastor, “How did he or she handle that?” And, naturally, the man or woman who is asked explains that only through God-given strength, peace, and perseverance, are we able to overcome the seemingly insurmountable happenstances of life in this world.
