Hello! It’s John and please allow me to say: Welcome & Thank You for Your Interest in What Is The Best Way To Study The Bible for growing your relationship with God!
I am a Licensed and Ordained Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a man transformed by the Love, Power, Promises, and Word of God…It’s my mission to share insights into The Way, The Truth, and The Life, so that you may also enjoy the Fruits of the Spirit — Let’s Grow!!!
I had a friend who could barely speak English and His Favorite three English words were, “Just Trust God!” That was his answer to everyone, all the time, for any situation: “Just Trust God!”
At first, I took it as an over-simplification for nearly every situation he was addressing, but once I thought deeply about it; once I contemplated upon it, his was the most genuine answer and advice for anything and everything that could ever occur in the lives of believers.
These three simple words fit together perfectly with what Paul describes as the simplicity that is Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3).
The principles of Faith, Hope, and Love, are not only deeply embedded in Scripture but are practical tools for navigating life’s difficulties with grace, strength, and perseverance.
As long as you make Just Trusting God your True North; no matter which direction you travel, you will be drawing nearer to God; through Faith, Hope, and Love, or any combination of the three.
This article explores how they provide stability in times of trouble and how we can apply these principles to sustain our trust in God.
Life is a series of ebbs and flows, filled with moments of joy and seasons of struggle. It can be a rollercoaster, throwing us into loops and drops we never see coming. However, the need to Just Trust God remains constant throughout every forceful twist, speedy turn, dreadful drop, and uphill climb, on the rollercoaster of life.
Trusting God isn’t just a religious concept but a lifeline that keeps us grounded when the world turns upside down.
In times of hardship, the path forward can seem unclear, and trusting God often feels like a monumental challenge. Worry and doubt easily creep in, making us question everything, including our faith and the very nature of God.
However, it is in those moments of uncertainty that Faith, Hope, and Love serve as anchors, keeping us from being tossed about by the raging storms of life. Trusting God during these moments isn’t about ignoring reality or pretending everything is fine. It’s about trusting the all-powerful, all-loving, God, more than we trust ourselves, to see us through.
Proverbs 3:5-6 relays this foundationally and solid truth: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Trust in God and His Word will be a lamp unto your feet (Psalm 119:105).
Understanding the Challenges of Life
Challenges are an inevitable part of life. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, financial difficulties, health struggles, or emotional pain, life’s trials often test our ability to remain hopeful and trust in God’s plan.
- Scripture acknowledges the presence of hardship in a believer’s life.
- Jesus assures us that though we face troubles, He has overcome the world (John 16:33).
- Trust in God is an active decision to believe in His sovereignty and goodness.
- God works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
- Every challenge presents an opportunity to deepen our relationship with God.
Faith Amidst Adversity:
Definition and Importance of Faith
So, what exactly is faith, and why is it so vital when we’re facing adversity?
Faith is trust or confidence in God, especially when circumstances are uncertain, or challenging. It is the foundation of our relationship with Him and the deeply embedded roots that keep us from being blown over by the storms of life.
- Faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).
- Faith enables us to trust God even when we cannot see a solution to our problems. He promises that He has a plan to prosper us and not harm us (Jeremiah 29:11)
- Trials test our faith, but they also produce perseverance (James 1:2-3).
- Faith is not about avoiding hardship but growing despite and through it.
- Trusting in God’s plan gives us peace even in adversity.
Remember, faith isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a daily commitment. It’s waking up each morning and choosing to “Just Trust God!” This is especially true when the road ahead is rugged and uncertain. As you do so, it will grow your faith and you’ll find that it doesn’t just help you survive tough times; it gives you the strength to thrive in their midst.
Biblical Examples of Faith During Trials
Throughout the Bible, we find stories of men and women who exhibited faith in the most difficult circumstances. These examples inspire us to cling to our faith, regardless of the seriousness of our challenges.
- Job lost everything but, after becoming angry with and doubting God, he chose to remain steadfast in his trust and belief in God (Job 13:15).
- Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac showed his complete trust in God’s promises (Genesis 22:1-18), as did his readiness to leave behind everything and begin a journey to an unknown place and future (Genesis 12:1).
- Noah built the ark by faith, trusting and believing God’s warning about the flood, despite everyone in the world labeling him a fool for his faith and belief in God (Hebrews 11:7).
- Moses exercised tremendous faith in leading the Israelites through the towering walls of water of the Red Sea (Hebrews 11:29).
The faith of these individuals was never perfect. They made mistakes and were disobedient at times, their foundational faith was rewarded by God, in ways they could never have imagined.
Your faith is sufficient. When the world thinks you are foolish or crazy? “Just Trust God” and He will see you through!
The Role of Hope in Troubling Times:
Definition and Significance of Hope
Hope is a confident expectation that God will fulfill His promises, even when we can’t see how. It lifts our gaze from our present struggles and helps us focus on God’s plans.
- Hope is an active anticipation of God’s goodness (Romans 8:24-25).
- Hope redirects our focus away from the current situation toward God’s promises.
- It allows us to endure suffering with patience and perseverance.
- Hope gives us the strength to face each day confident in God’s faithfulness.
- It reminds us that no situation is beyond God’s redemptive power.
Scriptures Emphasizing Hope
Hope acts like a guiding star when the night seems darkest. It’s what keeps us going when we’d rather give up. But, in reality, what role does hope play amidst overwhelming difficulties?
The Bible offers numerous passages encouraging believers to maintain hope in God, even in times of turmoil and trouble.
Hope is much more than wishful thinking. It’s a confident expectation that good will come, even when everything looks dark and bleak.
- “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
- Romans 8:24-25 emphasizes, For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
- We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure (Hebrews 6:19).
- May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13).
- Why, my soul, are you downcast? Put your hope in God”(Psalm 42:5).
Hope assures that God’s plans are good, even when we cannot see the outcome.
Practical Ways to Cultivate Hope
In times of despair, we can actively nurture hope by seeking God and relying on His promises.
- Immerse yourself in Scripture: Regularly reading God’s Word fills us with hope.
- Pray for strength: Ask God to renew your hope daily and guide you through dark times.
- Surround yourself with encouragement: Fellowshiping with other believers strengthens hope.
- Keep a gratitude journal: Reflecting on past blessings and instances of divine deliverance reinforces your hope for the future.
- Focus on God’s faithfulness: Remembering God’s past faithfulness strengthens our hope for what lies ahead.
- Do not overlook the importance of gratitude: Even in the middle of a storm, find things to be thankful for. Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s missing to what’s present, filling your heart with hope instead of despair. Remember; it is the will of God in Christ that you thank him in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Always know that hope isn’t just a fleeting feeling; it’s a steadfast belief in a better tomorrow. And when you hold onto that hope, you’re not just surviving the difficult times; you’re moving through them with the grace and assurance that only hope in God can provide.
Love as a Foundation During Hardships:
Understanding the Power of Love
When life tests our limits, love becomes the glue that holds everything together. Love isn’t just a sentiment; it’s an active choice and the most potent force we can rely on during hard times. When we rely on love, factually, we are relying on God because God is Love (1 John 4:8). When we show others love, we show them God.
Love, in its purest form, is more than a feeling—it is a commitment to seek the best for others, even in the most difficult circumstances. Love keeps us connected to God and others during times of suffering.
- Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).
- Jesus calls us to love each other as He has loved us (John 15:12-13).
- Love compels us to act selflessly, even amid our own struggles.
- Love helps us extend grace, forgiveness, and compassion to others while suffering, perhaps even at their hands.
- It’s through love that we experience the fullness of God’s presence in our lives.
Biblical Teachings on Love
The Bible repeatedly emphasizes love as the highest virtue and the most important commandment for believers.
During tough times, love expresses itself in various ways. It can be in the form of kind words to someone who’s struggling, or lending a helping hand to a neighbor. Love manifests in patience and understanding when tensions run high. These small acts of love can create ripples that transform communities.
- Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).
- Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth (1 John 3:18).
- But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44).
- Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. (Ephesians 4:2).
Love is central to the Christian life and an essential part of our response to adversity.
Examples of Love in Action
God’s love serves as the ultimate example. John 3:16 reminds us, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
The sacrificial love of God provides us with the assurance that we are deeply cherished, no matter what we’re going through.
Love manifests itself in practical, everyday actions that reflect God’s love for us.
- Ruth’s loyalty to Naomi showed love’s resilience in the face of loss (Ruth 1:16-17).
- The early church cared for one another’s needs, demonstrating love through community (Acts 4:32-35).
- Jesus’ sacrificial love on the cross is the ultimate example of love in action (John 15:13). While suffering excruciating pain, Jesus prayed for those torturing and executing him (Luke 23:34 ).
- Love motivates us to serve others, even when we are struggling.
- In times of difficulty, love becomes a powerful force for healing and unity.
Applying Scripture to Everyday Struggles:
The Bible is filled with verses that provide comfort, guidance, and encouragement for different types of suffering.
- For fear and anxiety: For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7).
- For strength and courage: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid…for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9).
- For emotional pain: The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
- For financial struggles: And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
- For physical health: Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord (James 5:14).
So remember, love isn’t just a feeling; it’s an action. It’s showing up for others and allowing others to show up for you. It’s letting God’s love fill your heart so that you can pour it into the lives of those around you. When love is the foundation, even the greatest hardships can become opportunities for growth, connection, and deep, transformative healing.
Conclusion—Sustaining Trust in God:
Amid life’s difficulties, faith, hope, and love remain essential tools for trusting God. These principles, grounded in Scripture, help us navigate trials with grace and endurance.
- Faith enables us to trust God beyond our circumstances.
- Hope keeps us focused on His promises for the future.
- Love compels us to act selflessly, even during hardship.
- Trusting in God is an ongoing journey of spiritual growth.
- As we embrace these principles, we learn to thrive in our relationship with God, even in adversity.
Navigating the storms of life isn’t easy, but learning to sustain our trust in God can turn those storms into opportunities for growth. Through the strength of faith, the assurance of hope, and the power of love, we’re not just enduring hardships; we’re growing through them.
First, remember that faith is our foundation; it keeps us moving forward even when we can’t see the path ahead. Keep your faith strong by engaging with the Bible, praying, and surrounding yourself with a community that uplifts you. Faith gives us the confidence to face uncertainty head-on.
Hope acts as our anchor, grounding us when the winds of adversity try to blow us off course. Scripture like Romans 8:24-25 and Jeremiah 29:11 remind us that no matter how bleak things look, there’s always a promise of a brighter tomorrow. Hope doesn’t just help us survive difficult times; it allows us to look forward with anticipation while in their midst.
Then there’s love, the force that binds everything together. Love transforms. It heals wounds, uplifts spirits, and connects hearts. Acts of love, both big and small, can change lives. Love reminds us that we’re never alone in our struggles and that God’s love is the ultimate unfailing, never-ending source of comfort and strength.
As you move forward, apply scripture to your daily life. Whether it’s through reading, prayer, or conversation, let God’s Word be your guide. Identify the verses that speak to you the most and carry them with you, using them as touchstones during tough times.
Finally, never underestimate the power of community. Sharing your journey with others can provide the support and encouragement you need to keep going. Whether it’s your family, church group, or friends, lean on them and allow them to lean on you.
So, keep trusting God. He will see you through to the other side of your heartaches and troubles. Life has its ups and downs, but Faith, Hope, and Love as your constant companions–coupled with just trusting God– will allow you to handle whatever comes your way; with grace, dignity, and perseverance.
Remember, God’s got your back, and with Him, you can overcome anything.

What an interesting article! I have actually been going through a bunch of difficult times lately, as my wife was laid off from her job about a year ago, and we are still struggling. Thankfully, our relationship is pretty good — we are really good partners and pretty good at communicating with each other. Unfortunately some of my trust in God has withered away because of these life events. I agree somewhat with the article, but faith, hope, trust can easily be rattled when life brings on one challenge right after another. I do Trust, but it’s really very difficult sometimes.
Hello Rich!
Yes, indeed! When it rains, it pours, and the time between the storms of life can be awfully short… Trust me. I know this all too well.
It’s our natural inclination to look past the blessings we already have, discounting them, while not being able to take our eyes off the troubles we are in the middle of, or of those we may be headed for.
That, alone, tends to cause us to doubt that God is present with us, even though we know there is no time–and no place–in our lives when he is not… that he will never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5; Deuteronomy 31:6).
I believe it is one of the fundamental reasons that the Will of God for every life is that we thank him in all circumstances… People who are trying to figure out the Will of God for their lives need only read 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
Trying times present opportunities for us to grow in strength and faith and love, and they are the perfect opportunity for us to become more Christlike and Christ-centered.
It is a matter of trusting God and shifting our perspective from the natural thought processes to the supernatural instructions and best practices mandated by God.
In my own life, when I started thanking him for all circumstances in my life–the bad included–He began to show me that the bad things that happened grew my strength and wisdom, and focus on God and set the example for everyone watching, or knowing, what I was going through.
It was easy to look back and see how those bad circumstances caused me to grow, and sometimes, even to see the positive impact and encouragement that seeing me go through those times had on others…
Looking back and seeing things is easy-peasy… But thanking him during those bad circumstances? Well, it’s tough, nearly impossible, at first… Mainly because even when do remember to thank him, we have no gratitude in our hearts and it feels like we are lying to God, even though we are not.
But here is the thing: Romans 8:28 declares that God is working all things to the good and 1 Samuel 15:22 guarantees us that obedience is better than sacrifice, while 1 John 2:5-6 informs us that it is through obedience that the love of God is made complete in us.
So, thanking God for the terrible circumstances in your life–even when, in your confusion, you may be angry at God, as Job was–is not only commanded by and the very will of God, but He will honor your obedience more than any sacrifice you could ever make.
When you begin thanking Him, especially when you do not understand what he is doing, or why he is not doing what you think he should be doing… Well, you are Just Trusting God when you have every worldly reason not to. He will and He does honor that type of trusting him.
That is living by supernatural principles, as opposed to our natural inclinations… And THAT is living Christlike and with Christ as our example!
You are on the right path and it does my heart good to hear it, especially in these days filled with trouble!!!

We all need hope especially when going through difficult times, It is God who we can turn to, He is our Creator God who created all things both in heaven, earth, and the spiritual realm. Good invites us to come to Him not only in difficult times but to establish a relationship with Him that will build trust so we can lean on and depend on Him not only in times of hardship but also getting to know Him more and more each day!
Hello Norman!
Thanks for your insightful input on the need for Hope (and God) in times of difficulty. I, too, agree that God longs for us to lean on him, and trust him more and more, each day (and not just during those times when he seems most distant).
After all; he created mankind directly from his desire to have fellowship with us.
You are on the right path and it does my heart good to hear it, especially in these days filled with trouble!!!

I have two ways of cultivating hope. The first is reflecting on what you’re grateful for. For me, this can shift my mindset toward hope. Gratitude helps me focus on positive aspects of life, even during difficult times, which can naturally lead to a more hopeful outlook. I remember what I have rather than what I haven’t got. Mt gratitude journal focuses on the big and three small things a day. The small things can be homemade soup on a cold day or the random kindness of strangers.
Secondly, I surround myself with positive people because they tend to vibrate at a higher frequency, and that is important for me; as Albert Einstein says, “Everything in life is energy.”
Hello Catherine!
Thank you for your insights into cultivating hope with gratitude… We all tend to look past the blessings we already have to focus on the troubles we are in or may be headed for.
